Our Yulendj Art Exhibition

Our 2017 Yulendj Art Exhibition is a curated selling exhibition of approximately 44 contemporary artworks consigned to us from major art galleries in Melbourne including James Makin Gallery, Karen Woodbury Gallery, Mossgreen and MARS along with 15 silent auction items on offer sourced through donated works.

All artwork will be for sale throughout the duration of this four day event and all proceeds from the selling exhibition will support the St Catherine’s Indigenous Scholarship Program.

We warmly invite you to visit our Exhibition to be held at St Catherine’s on:

Monday 29 May                    9.00am – 5.00pm

Tuesday 30 May                   9.00am – 5.00pm

Wednesday 31 May               9.00am – 7.00pm

Thursday 1 June                  9.00am – 2.00pm

The Exhibition is organised by a committee comprising current and past parents, alumnae and staff.  We are all proud to be associated with this Exhibition supporting our Indigenous students.

St Catherine’s School was granted the use of the world Yulendj meaning ‘knowledge’ in the Boon Wurrung language by the Victorian Aboriginal Corporation for Languages in February 2015.  The Boon Wurrung language was spoken by the six clans of the Boon Wurrung peoples at the time of European settlement.  It reaches from the Werribee River, along the Mornington Peninsula to Point Nepean, Western Port Bay, Wilson’s Promontory and extends to the Dandenong Ranges.

Our Indigenous Scholarship Program

The St Catherine’s Yulendj Indigenous Scholarship Program provides full boarding and academic scholarships to Indigenous students from regional Aboriginal communities across Australia.  This program is a vital component which enriches our culturally diverse School community.

In partnership with the Yalari Foundation, St Catherine’s is committed to enrolling two Year 7 students, awarded with a Yalari Scholarship, on a biennial intake, for the duration of their secondary schooling. The Scholarship provides recipients with full academic tuition, Boarding House residence, additional academic support and one-on-one coaching to assist the development of study and organisational skills.

The School receives funding for each Indigenous student through the Yalari Foundation and the Federal Government Abstudy allocation; however, there remains a significant financial gap for each student. To assist in closing the gap, the School is seeking your support through the purchase of artwork or directly through donations to our Indigenous Scholarship Program.  All monies raised will support our Indigenous students through their senior schooling years by providing tuition and boarding as well as full access to co-curricular school activities.
