A hospital has been set up in a dramatic play area of the Blue Gum classroom this term. The children have engaged in role play by exploring various roles such as a patient, doctor, nurse and parent. They have begun to act out scenarios using the props provided.

The children have shared their own experiences as well as their knowledge about hospitals and visiting the doctor.

“Once I went to the doctor and they gave me an ice-pole for being brave.” – Lily.

“My mum has a stethoscope at home. She uses it to listen to my heart.” –  Everleigh.

Through this imaginative role play, the children have played out many different scenarios. This has encouraged them to share and negotiate ideas, take turns and problem solve.

The children in the Blue Gum room have explored the patient, doctor, nurse and parent roles.

As the term unfolds, we aim for the children to learn more about their bodies through a variety of languages, including play, stories, songs and discussion. As educators, we will listen closely to the children’s conversations, questions and theories in order to drive their learning.

The Blue Gum room children have enjoyed playing out different hospital scenarios through imaginative play.
