Hamilton Choir Joins Junior School For a Choral Afternoon

Hamilton Choir Joins Junior School For a Choral Afternoon

Our Years 3 and 4 students recently hosted a choir from Hamilton and Alexandra College for an afternoon filled with music and singing. The choir travelled from Hamilton, located in Victoria’s Western District, to Melbourne to attend a choral festival on the following evening. Our St Catherine’s students welcomed the opportunity to meet children from another community and share their love of singing together.

Our Years 3 and 4 students hosted a choir from Hamilton and Alexandra College for a choral afternoon.

After a long bus trip, our visitors were ready for some fresh air and a brief lunch break. We gathered in the new Junior School Auditorium, ready to share some singing and music together. The Heyington Choir performed first, singing a song by Australian composer, Dan Walker, called Bamba Hunting. This was followed by I Am The Earth, which was written by Gyn Lehmann for the International Year of Planet Earth in 2008. This second piece tied in well with Science Week. We then enjoyed listening to the Hamilton and Alexandra College Choir sing a comical piece about a cat called The Cat Came Back, followed by a song about a baby koala.

In preparation for this event, both choirs learnt a piece to sing together called Just Sing by Scott Buchanan. The students had a great time presenting this beautiful piece about the joy of singing. Isabella Soutter (Year 4) and Emma Peele (Year 4) thanked the students for their visit and wished them well for their performance the following day.

It was an enjoyable afternoon that passed by all too quickly. We look forward to continuing our friendship with the students at Hamilton and Alexandra College.
