Barbreck Basketball Results

On Wednesday 15 August, eight Year 6 students took part in the Armadale District Basketball Round Robin.

The St Catherine’s team won their first three rounds against Korowa, Firbank and Lauriston, registering wins by more than 20 points in each game. Fast ball movement by Sophia Atkins and Louisa Burney ensured we were presented with many uncontested baskets. Mattea Demetriou and Keira O’Hara performed well under the ring.

Semi-final time saw us pitted against Loreto in a close game. Our tall rebounders, Sophie Dreaver and Millie Nilsen, were outstanding as we went on to record a hard fought 12 points to seven victory. Indi Cunningham and Scarlett Pringle made sure Loreto were given no easy points.

Grand final time saw St Catherine’s and Genazzano, the two undefeated teams of the tournament, face-off. St Catherine’s took the early lead in the first half against Genazzano who had never been behind in the tournament. St Catherine’s ran up five team fouls early in the game, which proved a difficult hurdle to overcome. With Sophie Dreaver acquiring an injury in the second half, and after a long day on the court, the students began to tire and could not hold the talented Genazzano team.

It was fantastic to witness the students come together to form a team, having not played together previously, and perform so well. A special thanks to Ross Burney for his special coaching assistance and motivation to the team.
