Que nos filles soient plongées en Langues – Immersing our girls in language

Language acquisition and development has been a strong feature at St Catherine’s since the School was founded back in 1896. It is more than learning about a particular language, such as French, Chinese (Mandarin) or Japanese and it’s more than just learning about grammar, vocabulary and a sound system alone. It’s about gaining a deeper cultural understanding and cultural intelligence and the boosting of students’ literacy skills and comprehension of English. And it is absolutely that right time for your daughter to learn a second language with young people’s brains absolutely wired for language learning.

As the recent 2017 Annual Giving brochure recently mailed to you described, a purpose built Language Lab will be a key feature of our new Junior School. It will be a place where our girls have exclusive access to French at any time with extra-curricular/out of school hours’ French learning provided more quickly and effectively. The Language Lab may also be available for English as a Second Language and Chinese (Mandarin) language breakfast club in the future.

The Language Lab will unlock new and progressive teaching, providing both a physical space for concrete learning and the facilities to quickly connect students to digital activities such as iPad apps, vocabulary programs/language video websites for best-practice language learning.

With your support, and the support of the broader St Catherine’s family, we can deliver a leading practice Language Lab that inspires and propels our girls’ development of linguistic skills and cultural recognition.

I hope you may be interested in the short video (see below) which demonstrates the impact that gifts such as yours can make through our new Language Lab.
