Exemplary Staff – Junior School 2022

Through our consistently strong academic results and focus on developing the ‘whole-child’ the quality of our teaching and the commitment to excellence shown by our staff is evident.

To ensure a continuous culture of learning occurs in every classroom and Co-curricular program, St Catherine’s commits to engaging exceptional staff, aligned with our values in their passion for girls’ education and wellbeing.

It is with great pleasure we welcome the following exemplary staff to St Catherine’s Junior School, Barbreck.

Ms Victoria Shaw
Barbreck, STEM Specialist

We welcome Tori as our Junior School STEM Specialist. Tori joins us with a wealth of experience from Carey, Wesley and Rowville Secondary College. The programs led by Tori across a number of schools include unique Enrichment and Transition programs in upper primary years. Tori has also written various STEM resources for Cambridge University Press with Education Australia, including Dynamic Science (online resource) and the award-winning Cambridge Science for the Victorian Curriculum resources, Years 7 to 10.

 

 

Mrs Louise Thompson
Barbreck, Year 2 Classroom Teacher

Louise has been teaching at Christ Church Grammar School since 2011, predominately in the younger Junior School years from Prep to Year 2. Prior to her current role, Louise taught across a number of schools including Wesley, Westbourne and Korowa Girls School, across a variety of Year levels. As an educator, Louise is dedicated to inspiring minds and fostering a lifelong love of learning through an encouraging, highly engaged, understanding, collaborative and reflective classroom. We welcome Louise back to the Barbreck teaching team!

Ms Auveen Twomey
Barbreck, Year 4 Classroom Teacher

Relocating to Victoria from the UK, Auveen has worked in a number of educational roles, including classroom teaching to Deputy Principal positions. In the UK, Auveen most recently worked as Assistant Principal at Akroydon and St Chad’s Primary Academy’s in Halifax, both schools sitting within the Trinity Multi Academy Trust, renown for making significant improvements to the learning behaviours and outcomes for students. Whilst in Australia, Auveen has worked at Port Melbourne Primary School as a Year 3 Teacher and Team Leader.

 

 

Ms Ilse Johansen
Barbreck – Year 5 Classroom Teacher

Ilse joins St Catherine’s School following on from two years at Shelford Girls’ Grammar where she was teaching Year 6. Ilse has also previously taught at Korowa Anglican Girls’ School, again in Year 6. She is passionate about creating authentic learning experiences that enable girls to establish solid foundations in literacy and numeracy. Ilse also has an interest in the wellbeing of students and has piloted a program on mindfulness. Ilse will be teaching the third Year 5 class in 2022.

 

Ms Kristen Dhono Isworo
Barbreck Performing Arts Coordinator 

Kristen holds a Bachelor of Education (Primary) with Distinction from Deakin University, specialising in Primary Arts Education: Music (F-6) and Advanced Contemporary Dance. Kristen is a highly accomplished strings musician having competed at a number of renown festivals. She has a strong background in dance and a keen interest in Drama. Her collective talents make for a highly experienced and expert Performing Arts Coordinator at Barbreck in 2022.
