District Basketball Tournament 2022

The 2022 Year 6 District Basketball Tournament took place at Oakleigh Recreation Centre on Wednesday 31 August. Eight Year 6 girls represented St Catherine’s after several training sessions with the Year 6 Basketball Squad. A short minivan trip saw the St Catherine’s Basketball Squad excited and ready to play.

Arabella Foote played as a fearless centre, giving all her energy to every minute of every game, and winning crucial possessions.

Isla Rosenberg, who received an injury to her finger during the warm-up, persevered throughout the Tournament and won the ball with her powerful intercepts and rocket passes.

Pippa Van Der Venne was a lightning fast forward, intercepting many passes and scoring some incredible baskets during the game against Lauriston.

Alie Belan, who currently plays club basketball, was a consistent team player throughout the matches, running hard for her team despite a finger injury in the final game.

Carla Martuccio was the great all-rounder, playing all around the court and scoring some important baskets in the game against Melbourne Girls Grammar.

Tara Pattison was extremely accurate under the ring, scoring several important baskets throughout the Tournament.

Coco Lutz consistently demonstrated athletic ability, running tirelessly in each game, and showing her dribbling skills.

Berry Roberts was an excellent team player, giving lots of encouragement throughout the day and putting herself on the line to gain possession.

It was a sensational team effort from all eight girls.

Finishing equal fifth in the district, St Catherine’s ended the Tournament with two wins, two losses and a draw. It was a fantastic experience for our Year 6s, and each player grew in skill and confidence as the Tournament progressed.

District Sports events are an integral part of the St Catherine’s School Sports Program, offering fantastic opportunities for our Year 6 students to develop their resilience, empathy for their teammates and passion for sport.
