Congratulations, Curious Comedies!

Congratulations to the cast, crew, and production team of Curious Comedies. This year, the Year 7s and 8s staged a set of four One Act Comedies, all of which contained either curious storylines or characters.

Set in Britain and featuring a range of characters like Sherlock Holmes trying to crack the case, some feature uninvited dinner guests, and others who were just trying to get through to the end without the set falling apart! The plays were punctuated by three vaudevillian acts, showcasing the comic abilities of some of the cast members through song and even ballet.

The student performers relished exploring the scripted witticisms and larger-than-life characters during our rehearsal process and did some wonderful work across both sold-out performances. Ably directed and supported by Ms Kathryn Lucas and three of our Year 9 Drama Mentors, Ashleigh Jakabovits, Rachel Carton and Sophie Powell, the cast responded to the demands of the script, and embraced the comedic stylings of each play.

It was an important point of reflection looking at the progress since they embarked on the project at the beginning of Term 3. There was great excitement amongst the Years 7&8 Cohort about performing in the new Jamie and Rebecca Gray Theatre, and they certainly brought their performances to a new level during the Technical and Dress Rehearsals.

Thank you to the effervescent Creative Arts Auxiliary, led by Mrs Irene Karas, who set the tone for the performances with another wonderful Front of House display, themed refreshments stall and prize raffle on opening night.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the success of the show, our cast, crew, tech team, production team, ushers, teaching staff, marketing, and maintenance staff. As was highlighted after the curtain fell on the final show, it was a huge team effort to stage a production and there were well over 80 people who worked on this one in many different roles. We are very lucky to be able to work with such creative, talented, and dedicated people.
