Class of 2022: Wing Man (Cecilia) Lau

Wing Man (Cecilia) Lau
STEM Captain

What have been the highlights of your time at St Catherine’s?

Definitely the Senior School production, Urinetown. Although it was hard to balance my study and rehearsals it was my most unforgettable memory at St Catherine’s.

What co-curricular activities were you involved in?

I joined Viva Voci and was part of the Senior School production, Urinetown.

What were your favourite subjects?

Physics and Mathematics.

What do you plan to study post School?

I plan to study Physics or Mathematical Physics.

What led you to selecting this career pathway?

I would say Mr Brown and Mr Barry. I did not really like Physics when I first came to St Catherine’s, but my Physics teachers showed me how fascinating physics is. Now, I love Physics.

How has St Catherine’s assisted you in making your study and career choices?

The Careers Office helped me a lot in planning my high school studies as well as my plans for the future. I remember back in Year 10; I would often go to the Careers Office and chat about what I wanted to do and what I needed to do. I cannot imagine what I would have been doing now without this advice.

Where do you hope to study?

I hope to study either in the UK or Melbourne.

What do you see yourself doing in five years’ time?

I see myself furthering my study in postgraduate level Physics.

How do you believe St Catherine’s and your teachers have helped you reach your goals?

My Physics teachers sparked my interest in physics and helped me plan what I needed to do to reach my goals.

In 2022, the Year 12 theme was Emerge. What does this mean to you?

For me, it means a positive change over the year. Many of my skills have improved a lot since the year started, especially my speaking skills because of my language study.

What advice would you provide to future Year 12 students?

Year 12 is a marathon. Remember to save some energy for the final sprint!
