Chinese New Year 2023

As the Cultural Diversity Captain for 2023, I have the wonderful opportunity to celebrate the Chinese New Year – Year of Rabbit, with our School community and share the joy with everyone.

It was a wonderful experience to watch the Lion Dance with both the Junior and Senior School communities. The lion is considered an auspicious animal to exorcise evil and avoid harm for the new year. I think it will bring everyone good luck for 2023.

Chinese New Year is popularly known as Spring Festival in China because it marks the end of winter and the beginning of spring. This year, my family and I have celebrated this grandest festival in China together, as it is the custom of having a family reunion and have a sumptuous dinner, to appreciate a whole year of hard work and look forward to the New Year.

The colour red is also an important part of Chinese New Year. Red often represents fortune and jubilance, which brings a lively and joyful atmosphere.

At the end of the lion dance, our School Captains handed out the red envelope, a traditional monetary gift that symbolises good wishes and luck.

It has always been an awesome tradition to have the whole St Catherine’s School community celebrate this extraordinary festival together, and I wish everyone a wonderful year ahead!

祝大家兔年万事如意,前程似锦!

(I wish you all the best and bright future in the Year of the Rabbit)

St Catherine’s School warmly thanks the Confucius Institute for supporting this event.
