Located in the inner Melbourne suburb of Toorak, St Catherine’s School is a day and boarding school for girls. It has a population of740 students from the Early Learning Centre to Year 12 and with up to 50 students from local, rural and international communities call the boarding house, Illawarra, home.

As a smaller school, the size has many advantages for students. Every girl can be known and valued and the one campus means both the younger and older students learn in one central community.

St Catherine’s also enjoy a reputation for outstanding Victorian Certificate of Education results.

Over the past five years, 5.5 per cent of their year 12 students have achieved an Equivalent National Tertiary Entrance Rank of above 99 and more than 71 per cent have achieved 80 or above.

The girls consistently excel in the co-curricular arena, whether it is in sports like rowing or in debating and music competitions.

As part of the St Catherine’s boarding experience, students are given the opportunity to get to know each other and all that Melbourne has to offer as part of organised weekend activities, including visits to galleries, markets, beaches and cinemas.

St Catherine’s School head of boarding Sue Collister said that the experience allows the students to gain the independence they need for tertiary life and beyond. “Under the supervision of one of our boarding staff, the girls are discovering Melbourne and learning important life skills, such as the safe use of public transport,” Mrs Collister said.

Boarders are also provided with outstanding academic care and sound careers guidance which, when combined with the St Catherine’s School university enhancement courses offered in years 11 and 12, helps to establish an easy pathway for boarders to tertiary studies at institutions such as Melbourne and Monash Universities.
