St Catherine’s blitzes the schools field in a blizzard

TOORAK’S St Catherine’s won both the girls’ primary and secondary school divisions of the Victorian Interschools Snowsports Cross-Country Championships recently.

The St Catherine’s girls displayed outstanding effort and teamwork as they raced hard in the testing conditions at Mt Buller.

The school had three individual top-three performances: Julia Kent (Year 6) finished first in the Division 4 Classic Race, Zara Bongiorno (Year 7) was second in Division 3 and Lucy McAllister (Year 4) third in Division 5.

Annelise Cody (Year 10), Claudia Richardson (Year 11) and Zoe Hall (Year 6) also competed strongly, finishing fourth in their sections.

“The key to St Catherine’s success was the strong em-phasis on team, which was highlighted through the out-standing performances that saw St Catherine’s teams place on the podium in every event,” the school’s head of sport, Lloyd Knight, said.

The St Catherine’s Primary School team logged 42 points, finishing well clear of Lauriston (15) and MLC (15).

The St Catherine’s Secondary School team collected 60 points, winning from MLC (44) and Ivanhoe Girls’ Grammar School (40).

With such strong performances, many of St Catherine’s team members should qualify for the Australian championships next month.
