Delving into themes of honour and sacrifice, this year’s competition asked aspiring poets from 14 schools across the municipality to ruminate on the question, “What does Anzac Day mean to me?”. Ms O’Dwyer and a panel of judges narrowed down a list of finalists from more than 300 entries. Ms O’Dwyer said all of the entries had been of a high standard and thanked stu-dents for their efforts. Lily Henshaw (pictured with Ms O’Dwyer) from Lauriston Girls’ School in Armadale won the Grade 5 and 6 competition, with second place going to James Morrell from Stonnington Primary School.

St Catherine’s School students Flynn O’Brien and Charlotte Weir took out first and second prize respectively in the Year 7-10 category. Winners and runners-up each received book prizes and certificates, while other children were highly commended for their poems.
