Cross country carnival win for St Catherine’s

WHAT a week it has been for St Catherine’s School. Three of its students were named in Victorian teams and it won the Girls School Sport Victoria Preliminary Cross Country Carnival for the first time since 2005.
Romilly Walker (Year 8) will represent Victoria at the State Secondary School National swimming titles later this year in Darwin. Laetitia Donato (Year 10) has qualified for the Australian Open Diving Champion-ships in Melbourne this week and Thalia Barbayannis (Year 8) has been selected in the Victorian junior state water polo team. The Vic water polo team will compete at MSAC in July at the East Coast Challenge.

Out of the pool and on the cross country trail, St Catherine’s defeated a strong Firbank squad and 2015 Cross Country Championship runners up, MLC. The juniors got the day off to a good start with nine of the top 15 finishers being Year 7 and 8 St Catherine’s students. Francesca Demetriou was the fastest finisher, breaking the 12-minute barrier for three kilometres and placing second overall. Hot on her heels were Isabella Bufé, Alexandra Demetriou, Elodie Ferrali and Chloe Joubert.
