Empowering Girls Through Education
This week, I had the privilege of attending the International Coalition of Girls’ Schools Symposium at Queenwood in Sydney. It was an inspiring event, filled with thought-provoking discussions from experts who spoke passionately about the importance of empowering girls through education and unapologetically advancing the agenda for girls’ learning and leadership. Zali Steggal OAM, the former alpine skiing Olympian and now the Independent MP for the seat of Warringah was particularly inspiring talking about her journey, from Olympian, to lawyer, to politician. You could not help but smile at the challenges she overcame.
During my time in Sydney, I also had the opportunity to visit several leading girls’ schools, including Wenona, Loreto Kirribilli, and Pymble Ladies’ College. It was valuable to observe both the similarities and unique approaches within the girls’ education landscape in Sydney. At Pymble Ladies’ College, I had a particularly in-depth discussion around learning support, extension programs, and STEM initiatives. These conversations have sparked ideas for future collaboration, and I look forward to exploring ways we can continue to enhance these areas at St Catherine’s.
Overall, it was a highly rewarding experience, and I am confident the insights and connections made will directly benefit our students.
As I finish writing this, I have just come back from watching five St Catherine’s girls compete at the State Swimming Championships. Incredibly, Ellie W won her butterfly event and finished second in freestyle, Leticia C finished second in her freestyle event and the Year 6 relay team finished second in their freestyle relay. Regardless of the amazing results, their hard work and dedication have already made them outstanding representatives of our school. We are so very proud!
