Elevating Student Voice

The St Catherine’s Academic Advisory Program is designed to teach students the necessary self-regulation skills and study habits to learn in a more effective manner. The program is entering into its third year and works alongside our Thinking Agenda to support student cognitive engagement.

This year, we are inviting students in both Year 12 and Year 9 (as the leaders of the Senior and Middle Years respectively) to present alongside staff during the triweekly lecture. This way, students are not only hearing about effective study from teachers, but seeing it practised in the excellent examples of their peers.

Year 9 students Charlotte Roe and Carla Martuccio presented to their peers on their organisation of their study spaces and time during the Middle Years lecture on Environmental Structuring. This week, VCE Co-ordinator Esther Latimour invited several Year 12 students to reflect on their learnings from completing a Unit 3 and 4 subject during Year 11. Special thanks to Natalie Wang (Accounting), Vinuki Ranatunga (Biology), Karis Chan (Business Management), Aeryn Lee (General Maths), Ella Ingram (Geography, Lily Fogarty (Legal Studies) Selina Yao and Melody He (Chinese Second Language Advanced) and Amelia Chen (Methods and Physics) for sharing their tips. Their highlighted strategies of exam practice, verbal explanation and practice quizzes all fall under the ‘high-utility’ category, meaning they will be far more effective.

We look forward to including more student voice as part of our lecture series as the year continues.
