After finishing Year 12, I spent a year abroad in England working as a Resident Teachers Assistant (or otherwise know as a “Gap” student) at St Catherine’s School in Bramley, UK. This was a decision I made because of the extensive travel opportunities it provided and a feeling that I was not yet ready to begin my tertiary studies. Upon returning, I completed a Bachelor of Design at Melbourne University with a major in Property and minor in Design Histories. During this time, I worked part-time for a small residential builder and graduated at the end of 2019. I then started as a Residential Development Graduate at Mirvac and now work permanently within the Development Management team on a sustainable townhouse project called “The Fabric” located in Altona North. Despite having had to work from home for well over a year now… this job has definitely kept things interesting and offers the opportunity to get involved with a wide variety of topics from finance and construction all the way to sales and marketing. Look forward to sharing!

After completing Year 12, I studied a Bachelor of Commerce at The University of Melbourne, with an Accounting major and Finance minor. I studied full-time for a year, then studied part-time while working four to five days a week at PricewaterhouseCoopers as a trainee in their International Tax and Transaction Services team. After working at PwC for several years, I wanted to transition into something more hands-on, and became Head of Operations at an eCommerce FMCG company. I worked at several scaling companies in the eCommerce industry, largely in strategy roles, as they expanded their operations globally. After working with young businesses for several years, I identified the need for more affordable and sustainable debt funding. I then founded my own company, Bromleigh Capital, Australia’s first ethical small business debt financier. After growing my company for several years, I began to feel the challenges of establishing confidence and credibility as a young female founder in a male-dominated industry. I decided in order to further myself and my company, I would embark on additional study. I have just graduated from a Master of Business Administration (MBA) at the University at Oxford and am currently based in London. Outside of work, I continue to play violin as I did at School, as well as singing and playing bass guitar in a band with friends. I do a lot of Latin ballroom dancing and amateur Broadway shows in my spare time, and love cooking and traveling with friends.

After graduating in 2013, I moved to the UK to study Natural Sciences at Cambridge University. I ended up specialising in what some might call an Arts subject – History and Philosophy of Science – and graduated in 2018 with a BA and MSci. As much as I loved my time at uni, I confirmed that academia was not my next step, as I wanted to experience the corporate world. Management/Strategy Consulting was pitched to me as being, employed to be a “problem solver” and I undertook a summer internship at my current firm OC&C, converting it into a job offer at the end. I’ve been living and working full-time in London since January 2019, and have worked for a wide range of clients including Ted Baker, Unilever, Primark, even a forensic accounting firm, on many different types of projects including due diligence work for Private Equity firms and strategic work. Whilst my job is definitely not a 9 to 5, I have a great time with the people I work with, and I am constantly learning! Outside of work, I love running, cooking and eating, and am also exploring how I might move into more positive impact-focused work, as I think about my next career steps.

If you’d asked me where I saw myself in five years when I was in Year 12, I would not have guessed here. I left School quite job-focused and studied a Bachelor of Commerce at The University of Melbourne (Marketing & Finance majors), with breadth tracks in Literature and Philosophy, and was lucky to live on campus at Trinity College. I then took a year off to traverse Central and South America and while I learned a lot of Spanish, I didn’t get clarity on what to do next. I landed a job at a global agency Wunderman (now Wunderman Thompson) working across digital strategy, production, copywriting, social media, and project management. I found that my creativity was calling, and I now work at the NGV developing content, working on digital strategies for exhibitions, working on social, email and our website. I’ve always had an interest in books, films and cultures, so I am lucky to work in a job that intersects with those passions. I now have a free Art History degree, am creative every day, and am still investing time in learning Spanish on Duolingo.

After completing Year 12 I didn’t have a great deal of direction. I undertook a Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Deakin due to being proficient at Maths. Upon completion of the first two years of my studies I decided I still had a deep desire to be in the healthcare sector. This led me down a path to discover how the two could work together. Resources at St Catherine’s helped me find a double degree in Nursing Science/Business that I could transfer into whilst retaining my credits. My search continued and it was one year out of university that I discovered the world of the MedTech industry. I had found a way to impact people and their wellbeing, whilst also climbing the corporate ladder and influencing large scale decisions. Best of all, no glass ceiling! Since then my career has been a whirlwind full of opportunities I was unaware existed. Second to my main job, I also offer counselling to individuals looking to use their skills to branch out into new industries. Outside of work I keep up with all of my friends from St Catherine’s socially as well as enjoy fitness, designing, travel and cooking.

I found myself in Year 10 deciding I wanted to work in the medical world. With a keen interest in helping people, science and avoiding a desk job I decided to lean into a specific goal of becoming a Physiotherapist. I had two years to produce the ATAR that would make this possible so I worked by butt off to land in my dream course of a Bachelor of Applied Science and Masters of Physiotherapy at La Trobe University. Since my acceptance in 2014, I have experienced a very challenging degree, years of clinical placements and competitive job application processes. I made it out in one piece with the illustrious piece of paper I had been dreaming of since I was 16. I have since worked in Melbourne in private practice and with amateur AFL teams. I then found my niche in spinal physiotherapy at a private practice in Sydney. My latest venture has been to explore what else lies ahead for me in my career. I have been exploring the vast options that lie in Physiotherapy and Medicine, having recently sat the GAMSAT I hope to open some more exciting study and career doors!

During School, my favourite subjects were English and International Studies, and I had a keen interest in Debating and Politics. I chose to study a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Melbourne and attend Ormond College (which I would highly recommend), with the view of either studying Journalism or Law afterwards. After completing my BA and a few internships, I chose to study Law which ultimately led me to studying a Master’s degree in London and obtaining a job offer at Allens, which is the law firm I still work at today, three years later. Previously, I have worked in Mergers & Acquisitions and now in Banking & Finance. Outside of work, I love visiting my family and golden retriever in regional Victoria, cooking, hanging out with my girlfriends and spending time at the beach.

I then worked at a boutique commercial law firm in Sydney for two years before returning to Melbourne and to the public service, where I have since worked in legal policy for the Department of Justice and Community Safety, focusing on youth justice.

I am really excited to share my experiences working in legal policy because in my experience, there was very little information for students about this career path compared to other career paths in the legal sector.

Hi students – I remember all too well how difficult it can be to be a young person. When I was young I needed help and for this reason I understand just how valuable a warm, understanding psychologist can be to a young person experiencing the natural vulnerability of growing up. Having ‘grown up’ now, I spend my days helping young people with their mental health as a psychologist.
I’ve worked so far in high school settings, primary school settings, and in forensic psychology (Corrections Victoria). I work now in private practice primarily with children, adolescents, families and young adults.
If you’re interested in mental health and want to know about what it’s like to work in the field, I’d be honoured to share my experiences so far. Look forward to meeting you soon.
