Student Foundation
Make a difference!
Launched in 2007, the aim of the entirely autonomously-run Student Foundation is to organise events which fundraise for local and international charities, for example, the Alola Foundation.
Propelled by their strong sense of social justice, the St Catherine's Year 12 Class of 2007 launched the Foundation with their ‘On the Runway' event; a most memorable evening of fashion, fundraising and lots of fun for the whole community, which raised in excess of $20,000.
This year, our Year 12 students again amazed us all as they organised a very special and memorable night of entertainment and fashion.
From designing tickets to organising catering, liaising with musicians and designers, seeking sponsorship, recruiting models, overseeing publicity, coordinating rehearsals and selecting garments; the students coordinated almost every aspect of the event - a remarkable achievement.
MC and comedian Tracy Harvey and Kathy Hilton from the Ardoch Youth Foundation (the recipient of the proceeds of the event) opened the night, which included impressive dance performances and exclusive fashion wares modelled by 65 of our Junior and Senior students, as well as teachers, brothers and friends.
Guided by our School's values which include Hope and Compassion, our students have even bigger plans for the Foundation in the future and they look forward to partnering with our wider School community including parents, staff and Old Girls, to leave a unique philanthropic legacy.
Perhaps the best way to sum up the success of these events, and importantly, the learning experiences for our Senior students involved in the Foundation, is in the words of Junior School parents, Leanne and Brad Deacon:
