Premier’s Reading Challenge

Wednesday 10 March 2010

St Catherine's Head Librarian, Faye Shortal, gives insight into the Premier's Reading Challenge.

‘Once again the girls from Prep to Year 8 at St Catherine's are participating in the annual Premier's Reading Challenge (PRC) and over the coming weeks you may see an array of picture books, novels and interesting non-fiction titles coming home in the schoolbag alongside your daughter's textbooks.

The program encourages the development of literacy skills at all ages and is supported by the English teachers and the library staff.  The aims of the Challenge are threefold:   to encourage students to read, to read more, and read more widely. Students are required to read a minimum number of books selected from lists appropriate to their age group.  These books need to be read between February and August.  As students finish reading each book they log it onto a Website, where their book entry is then approved and verified by their teacher librarian.'
