Tonight's Music, Art and Drama Event

Friday 19 June 2009

The MAD night of jazz, art and drama is on tonight! This week we were privileged to invite our Year 7 girls for 2010 and their parents into our Senior School.

I am looking forward to tonight's MAD Event in the Senior School Hall, where our girls will entertain with a mix of jazz, art and drama. It will be a wonderful chance for our School community to enjoy the artistic, dramatic and musical efforts of our girls. The Music Department has incorporated their Jazz Night into the event, with all major ensembles performing with a Jazz focus. Special guests at the pre-dinner drinks will be the Junior School Epstein Singers! Some of the Senior Drama girls will be dressed as famous people from the arts and there will also be girls performing as 'mime' artists.

Today I have invited Mrs Patty Wallace-Smith, our Director of Curriculum, to write about our parent introduction to Senior School held this week:

It was hard to believe from the energy and noise levels in the Ballroom this week that the gathering of parents was in fact new to Senior School, although many were indeed current Year 6 parents. The group came to hear about the transition program for Year 6 into Year 7 2010, following from an orientation visit by their daughters the previous day.

In many ways this was a ‘tasting sample' for more substantial information evenings to come. Their morning comprised a tour of the Year 7 classes to see Science, Geography and the Independent Learning Class (ILC) in action. Brief presentations from staff followed in relation to Mathematics, LOTE, student welfare and the ILC, and then another sweep of the School, this time to Wiltondale to see great Art in progress and the Music Rooms.

It was terrific to have this pre-emptive opportunity to meet with next year's parents; it was clearly a most worthwhile experience for all.
