Beyond Boundaries Camps

Tuesday 2 June 2009

The Year 9 students increased their river and paddling skills during their challenging Mitchell River program.

It has been a busy couple of weeks for our School's Beyond Boundaries program! From Monday 18 to Friday 22 May, the Year 6 students attended their Beyond Boundaries camp, based at Valley Homestead in the Ovens Valley. Students participated in a number of exciting outdoor activities such as an initiative course, gold panning, bush dancing, bush survival, low and high ropes course, flying fox and abseiling. The girls were also introduced to camping and spent one night sleeping in tents! The five day program provided our Year 6 students with a solid foundation in outdoor education activities, preparing them for the future Beyond Boundaries sequence up to Year 10.

Last Friday, our Year 9s also returned from their Beyond Boundaries Mitchell River program. During their five day trip the girls increased their river and paddling skills and prepared and cooked all their own meals.  The Mitchell River program is a qualifying component for the students' Duke of Edinburgh's Award and is one of the most challenging trips in cold, wintry and wet conditions. The girls must be commended for their amazing effort on the river!

Thank you must go to our Director of Outdoor Education Amy Neville, and all staff who contribute to making these programs a fun and exciting experience for our girls. I am sure the girls have many positive memories from their time in the outdoors, but are now enjoying the warmth of their own beds!
