The pool is ours!
Monday 2 May 2011
On Thursday 21 April at around 5.00pm in the afternoon, the School received the key to the Sports and Aquatic Centre...the pool was ours! Not only the pool and the beautiful building but also the extension to the carpark, the water tanks and the field…all form the Centre.
April 28 saw a quiet and small gathering, while Georgie and Jessie Gleeson swam the first laps and thus became the first people and students to swim in the pool. They were watched by their proud mother Louise, herself a former student of St Catherine’s and presently a member of the St Catherine’s Old Girls’
committee and the School Council. This honour had been won in fierce competition at a fundraising event in 2010. I am sure the photo of Jessie and Georgie will eventually be seen by all members of our community. It was a wonderful moment.
While the pool is in use we have a number of areas that we are still completing, although these are small and limited in scope. We are confident that by the end of May, the Sports and Aquatic Centre will be seen as a seamless part of our whole School and our educational programs.
Years 7s will commence their Circus work which culminates with a performance to their families on Friday 6 of May. We also look forward to the Year 12 Formal on Saturday 7 May and I thank the parents for their organisation and involvement. Throughout the rest of the week we have other parent functions and the Years 9
to 12 Music Recital.
