Let the Debates Begin...

Thursday 19 March 2009

The Debating and Public Speaking program continues to thrive as one of the most popular co-curricular offerings at St Catherine's.School. Tonight sees the debut of the Debaters Association of Victoria (DAV) season with Round 1 at Scotch College. The Senior DAV Debating program enables Years 9-12 girls to have the opportunity to debate both prepared and secret topics against teams from other nearby schools in the Hawthorn Region.

As usual St Catherine's School will be well represented with several teams pitting their wits against students from neighbouring schools. A grade will debate the topic That we should abolish the minimum wage. The B grade teams will argue That Australia should have seats in parliament reserved for Indigenous people. C grade teams will debate the topic That we should legalise music piracy and the D grade affirmative teams will assert That we should value literature more than science. The teams began their preparation for the debates at a training session held after school last week.
