Year 1 Highlights
Friday 27 February 2009
Today I have asked Sue Cooke, Year 1 Teacher, to share with you all some of the highlights from the Year 1 Classroom so far this term:
‘Come and join us in our circle of friends. There’s always room for one more.’
This has been the motto of the Year 1 girls during the early weeks of this year. When asked about the highlights of Year 1 so far, the general consensus was “making lots of friends”.
Life has been very busy in the classroom. There is a happy buzz as the girls practise handwriting, take home weekly spelling for the first time, and explore maths concepts. Writing stories has become a passion, and every day we share a story that has been written at home. All activities are approached with enthusiasm and as one student commented, “We are finding new talents.”
In Year 1 we are learning about what life was like in the past. As part of our studies we are finding out about the history of St Catherine’s. After discussion about clothes that were worn in the past we looked at pictures of our founder, Miss Jeannie Hood and the students in her school in Castlemaine in 1897. Much discussion arose about what it would have been like to go to school in those days. The girls are very keen to share their knowledge about the history of St Catherine’s with the Barbreck community.
