An Active Start to the Year

Our Senior Girls at the Heyington Club Boat Christening last night. Our Preps have had a happy and exciting start to the year. Our Preps' Classroom Agreement

What a wonderful thing it is to know that a significant proportion of our student population rises at 5.00am every morning during the Rowing season. We have now announced our major teams and last night we held our Boat Christening (see photo) and know that the next few weeks will be more intense than even the beginning of this year.

Our Preps are coming to the end of their second week in Junior School and Diane Rundle, Prep Teacher, has written for today's Blog:

It has been a very happy and exciting time and every student has settled in quickly and discovered what it means to be a busy Barbreck girl. The Preps performed a poem about ‘A Very Special Place' at their very first Assembly and enjoyed a special morning tea to meet their Year 6 Buddies.

Every girl had a say about what should be in our Classroom Agreement (see photo) and decided that the most important rule was, ‘always use kind words'.

There has been a great deal of discussion about the recent bushfires but the focus in the Prep classroom has been on the heroes. Their responses to the question, What is a hero?' were delightful:

A hero is someone who always comes to help.
They are very brave people who go near dangerous things to save houses and especially people.
When they save someone it is a bit like prayers.
Some people say that firefighters are heroes and some people say the heroes are firefighters but I think it is kind of the same.

They have enjoyed meeting all the specialist teachers and are as yet undecided as to what subject they like best.
