Our 2017 Annual Giving program is now underway. Annual Giving is our annual campaign aimed at building philanthropic support for facilities, programs, infrastructure and staff to build the foundations for life-long independent learning for our girls.
This year’s Annual Giving program supports the Her Future Begins Here campaign, particularly the new Library and Resource Centre and Language Lab in the new Junior School.
One of the defining features of our new Junior School is the Language Lab – an initiative that will transform the delivery of language tuition at our School.
Language acquisition and development has been a strong feature at St Catherine’s since the School was founded back in 1896. It is more than learning about a particular language, such as French, Chinese (Mandarin) or Japanese and it is more than just learning about grammar, vocabulary and a sound system alone. It is about gaining a deeper cultural understanding and cultural intelligence and the boosting of students’ literacy skills and comprehension of English. It is absolutely the right time for our girls to learn a second language with young people’s brains absolutely wired for language learning.
As the recent 2017 Annual Giving brochure described, the purpose built Language Lab. It will be a place where our girls have exclusive access to French at any time with extra-curricular/out of school hours’ French learning provided more quickly and effectively. The Language Lab may also be available for English as a Second Language and Chinese (Mandarin) language breakfast club in the future.
Located at the heart of the new Junior School will be an innovative Library and Resource Centre. A place to not only find a great book, hear a good story or learn to discover through research but also a place where ideas are shared and enhanced through a technology-rich centre.
To achieve this, our Library and Resource Centre will provide boundless opportunities for growth. School libraries are evolving from providing information to students to preparing students as engaged critical thinkers, evaluators and entrepreneurial creators of information and knowledge. The Library and Resource Centre will be a shared learning space that is both physical and virtual. An inclusive and welcoming environment for our parents and grandparents to enjoy before, during and after School in fun, educational activities and reading.
To support our information brochure, we have prepared two short videos to demonstrate the impact that gifts such as yours can make.
