Baby Clothes for St Kilda Mums

Collecting and donating baby and children's clothes for parents in need

Congratulations to Year 10 student Phoebe Edwards who has received her St Catherine’s Dark Blue Leadership Diploma. Phoebe worked tirelessly collecting baby and children’s clothes for the St Kilda Mums organisation as part of the community service component of her Dark Blue Leadership Diploma.

Phoebe provides a summary of her community service project below:

During this term, I ran a donation drive to collect baby and children’s clothes for St Kilda Mums. This not-for-profit organisation assists children, mothers and families in need through the provision of both new and second hand baby goods. St Kilda Mums not only assists families, but also helps to preserve our environment through recycling clothes, toys and baby equipment. After having volunteered at St Kilda Mums on Friday evenings last year, I saw firsthand the gratitude and delight of mothers and families who received these items.

Prior to the drive, I organised a competition called ‘Guess the Teacher’ and collected baby photographs of some of our St Catherine’s teachers. I arranged for a group of Year 10 girls to visit the Years 7 to 11 Form Groups and asked students to guess who they thought each baby photo belonged to. It was a great success, and the winning Form, 10HK, were given large and sugary prizes at assembly. Thank you to the teachers who submitted their beautiful baby photos!

On Monday last week, I gathered a group of Year 10 girls to sort and pack the donated clothes into age group bags for delivery to St Kilda Mums. Thank you so much to all the girls, families and teachers who have donated and helped support this cause. Your donated clothes and blankets will be very much appreciated by families across Melbourne. The Leadership Diploma provides students in Years 9 and 10 the opportunity to strengthen their School community and refine and perfect their own leadership skills by studying for their Diploma, a qualification unique to St Catherine’s.

Students must successfully complete a list of criteria which includes developing positive relationships, involvement in mentoring programs, community service and environment programs, performance and public speaking, Outdoor Education and being a positive role model.
