Top Work!

Tia Mellios' fine line drawing will be showcased in the Top Arts exhibition at the Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia.

St Catherine's Year 12 artist, Tia Mellios, and budding photographer, Denise Mun, have had their creative work selected for the prestigious VCE Season of Excellence 2010

Tia's mystical fine line drawing, will hang in the Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia as part of this year's Top Arts exhibition while Denise's digital manipulation photograph series will be showcased in Top Designs at Melbourne Museum.

"My drawing is a narrative which details mermaids and other mystical characters and it is an interpretation of my childhood dreams, memories and imagination," Tia said of the piece she created in Studio Art.

Inspired by the ‘diptych' technique of using two images to create one, Denise produced her unique photographic series Illusions in Media.

"I had the idea to photograph ordinary objects and juxtapose them into different scenarios. For example I captured three sushi rolls and an inverted party hat, which made an ice-cream."

Tia and Denise continue a strong tradition of excellence at St Catherine's in the Visual Arts. In 2009, two students were selected for Top Arts and this year six students were shortlisted for VCE Season of Excellence exhibitions.

Top Designs will be showcased at the Melbourne Museum from 27 March - 27 June.  Top Arts will be on display from 1 April - 20 June at the Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia.
