Stage one: Our Sports and Aquatic Centre campaign for $9 million

We have raised nearly $6 million. Your family's donation will help us to reach our goal.

The Sports and Aquatic Centre (click here to view 3D Perspectives) and the upgrading of the Senior School Oval, the first project of The Campaign for St Catherine's, will directly support the already strong wellbeing program within our curriculum. Research has shown that  physical activity improves mental health and wellness, and extends to social and emotional health.

The total cost of the project is $9 million.

  • Nearly $4 million has been raised from the School community including $1.7 million raised by Lloyd Bickerton and his team in 2008 through gifts and pledges;

  • $2 million has been contributed to the Sports and Aquatic Centre through the Federal Government's Building Education Revolution Stimulus package for schools;

  • It was a condition of the Federal Government Funding that we commence building by the beginning of August;

  • Given the good progress of the fundraising to date and the unexpected gift from the government, we commenced building without having raised all the funds we need to complete the project.  We need your commitment to help us raise all the money.

We are confident that our School community will support the balance of the fundraising for this transformational facility.

Our Campaign Team of Lady Southey AC - Patron and Wayne Kent - Chairman, along with team members, Lloyd Bickerton, Clare Cannon, John Steven, Andrew Fox and Stephen Shelmerdine, together with any of the members of the Development Committee would be happy to discuss the Sports and Aquatic Centre with you and how you can support our fundraising goal.

If you would like to speak with someone, please telephone Gilly Nethercote, our Director of Development, on +61 3 9828 3032 or email gnethercote@stcatherines.net.au or approach the Chairman, Wayne Kent, Sylvia Walton, Alana Moor or any of the committee members listed above.

The Sports and Aquatic Centre will provide our students with indoor and outdoor sports facilities, a 25 metre pool with six lanes sized for squad training, a learners' pool, 1 metre diving board, gymnasium/training room with ergos, machines and weights, flexible classroom for health and physical education, a sick bay and spectator seating for 250, together with offices for sports and aquatic staff.

Four additional sports courts will be established on the Senior School Oval and enclosed by netting, allowing for all season tennis, netball, basketball, minkey hockey and other sports. The new synthetic surface will eliminate the need for watering. Landscaping to the surrounding outdoor areas and underground car parking also form part of the $9 million project.

As a School which is strongly committed to environmental sustainability, this Centre includes:

  • A co-generation plant which will allow the School to produce its own electricity to run the pool,
  • A 500,000-litre water tank which will provide water for backwashing the pools and irrigating the surrounding trees and gardens,
  • Double glazing, and
  • Glass walls and glass panels in the ceiling for maximum light.

This is an exciting time for St Catherine's and we invite you to join with us and support the Campaign.

To meet our Federal Government commitments this Project was launched at a Ceremony on 14 August 2009 .
