Message from the Principal
Our Junior School has a proud history of academic achievement, laying the educational foundation for generations of women – leaders and pioneers of industry, philanthropy, medicine, law and music. We are proud that the first female Lieutenant Governor, Lady Southey, and Governor of Victoria, The Honourable Linda Dessau, both began their educational journey in our Junior School.
To better cater for a range of needs and learning modes, the new classroom design is premised upon flexibility—the capacity for spaces to capture the needs of individual or small group work, team teaching or an open shared space for collaborative program work. Prep to Year 3 students will be housed together on one floor providing a gentle transition into the Junior School, enabling interaction with each other, and providing ease of access to the Library, Art Studio, Language Lab and Science Lab, fulfilling our commitment to providing specialist learning areas, such as the emerging field of STEM education.
There is a palpable and very positive energy to Barbreck. You can feel it as soon as you step onto our campus, our School’s character is evident immediately from the entry gates.
The Red Steps, Assemblies, Year 6 leaders, the Year 4 Four Leaf Clover program, the Junior School Musical, Twilight Picnic and other celebrations that remind us what is unique about Barbreck and inspire us to assume responsibility for the School’s future.
This is our bold dream for St Catherine’s girls
Mrs Michelle Carroll
