Researching Endangered Animals

The educators in the Wattle Room were looking for an opportunity to further develop the children’s research skills as well as extend upon their knowledge about endangered animals. We began by exploring the concept of research. The children came up with different types of questions about endangered animals and thinking of where we could gather information to answer these questions. In conjunction with this, the educators thought the children could take some form of action to follow up on their research. Subsequently, we decided to raise some money through a tea towel fundraising project and the profits would be donated to Zoos Victoria.

The children in the Wattle Room have further developed their research skills through a project exploring the topic of endangered animals.

The children were involved in drawing endangered Australian animals that would be used on the tea towels. They wrote the order forms and helped to count all of the money. We also had an excursion to the Melbourne Zoo where the children were eager to find the endangered Australian animals that they had been researching.

The Wattle Room children went on an excursion to the Melbourne Zoo where they visited the endangered Australian animals that they had been researching.

This was a great opportunity for the children to engage in some research and take some meaningful action.
