“Everything is raw material. Everything is relevant. Everything is usable. Everything feeds into creativity. But without proper preparation, we cannot see it, retain it, and use it.” – Twyla Tharp, Choreographer.

The Waratah Room children are actively participating in a rich collaborative process unlike any other they have embarked upon this year. The children have been invited to learn about not only the art of storytelling, but also the art of preparation.

To begin, the Waratah Room children engaged in animated discussions about their upcoming End of Year Concert. The children were invited to share their thoughts, ideas and feelings as to what they may like to perform for their families in celebration of the year’s cumulative learning. The children were invited to look through their individual Learning Journals and reflected upon songs learned this year and finalised a selection of ‘favourite’ musical pieces to share. These items shall remain a surprise…

What is a concert?
“The people go on a stage.”Olivia.
“You could dance and different people watch.” – Annabelle.
“We need singing.”Jamie.

The Waratah Room children have been playing and learning about many different inquiries this year, and wish to share their interest in nature, as well as the people and creatures that inhabit our world. They have collectively decided that their concert will share the importance of using gentle hands and kindness towards everyone and everything in ‘Our Whole World’.
