Collaboration Between the Wattle and Waratah Rooms

Biennially, the Early Learning Centre (ELC) organises a whole centre community event for the children to share with their parents. Plans are currently under way and the children are beginning to explore aspects of the event to encourage their involvement and sense of purpose.

As part of embedding Aboriginal perspective into the curriculum, each room has at some point throughout the year introduced the children to ‘Bunjil’ the eagle. The teachers reflected upon this and thought the community event would be the perfect opportunity for the children to engage in some collaborative work.

The children in the St Catherine’s Early Learning Centre have been learning about ‘Bunjil’ the eagle.

Representatives from each room in the ELC have had meetings and it was decided that the Wattle and Waratah Rooms would work together to create a clay Bunjil. The Waratah children have attended the Wattle Room to create the body of Bunjil and we plan to make some feathers to bring it all together.

Collaboration is an important aspect of our educational program; it allows the children and teachers to share knowledge and skills with one another. We look forward to continuing this journey together and the learning that will occur along the way.
