Hair With Heart Fundraiser

On Friday 30 May, 20 students from Years 7 to 12 volunteered to have their hair cut for ‘Hair With Heart’, an annual St Catherine’s event that raises money for a charity nominated by the students. This year, event organisers Chloe Manson (Year 12) and Alexandra Hall (Year 12), and the participating students, raised $13,500 for Variety – the Children’s Charity, an organisation supporting young people who face sickness, disability or disadvantage.

Twenty St Catherine’s students from Years 7 to 12 volunteered to have their hair cut to raise money for Variety – the Children’s Charity.

In addition to raising money, all hair that is cut on the day is donated to the making of wigs for children who have lost their hair due to a medical condition to assist them in gaining confidence and self-esteem. Chloe and Alexandra said over thirty centimetres of hair was donated to Variety to make into wigs for children with medical conditions which result in the loss of hair, such as alopecia and leukaemia. “The wigs allow children to gain that extra bit of confidence and get back to attending school,” explains Alexandra.

All hair cut on the day is donated to the making of wigs for children who have lost their hair due to a medical condition.

A large contingent of students turned out to support the girls on the day, which included a solo performance by Lauren Lew (Year 12) and a group performance led by music captains, Madison Hunt (Year 12) and Olivia Soong Zi Yuan (Year 12).

A huge congratulations to everyone who took part and came to support the girls, and well done to Alexandra Hall and Chloe Manson for organising a very successful and worthy fundraiser.
