Sewing in the Blue Gum Room

The children in the Blue Gum room have had the opportunity to engage in sewing. Needles, hessian and wool have been provided and with the support from their teachers, the children have been guided in learning the motion of sewing.

The children in the Blue Gum room have been learning about sewing.

This intentional teaching experience allows the children to practise their finger dexterity and fine motor control. The children have now begun sewing a self-portrait of themselves. Each term the children are provided a different ‘language’ to express their sense of identity. Sewing also teaches patience and perseverance as it is not an instant gratification experience where an immediate result is achieved.

The children’s eagerness and willingness to have a go has been wonderful to observe.

The Blue Gum room children have begun sewing self-portraits of themselves.

They are also developing dispositions for learning such as confidence, commitment and creativity. We look forward to displaying their self-portraits in the classroom to promote a sense of pride and achievement to themselves, their peers and their families.

Sewing provides the Blue Gum room children the opportunity to practise their finger dexterity and fine motor control.
