Philosophy Class Visits Melbourne Graduate School of Education

On Sunday 19 May, students from the Unit 3 Philosophy class attended a forum at the Melbourne Graduate School of Education convened by VAPS (Victorian Association for Philosophy in Schools). Students from across the State heard from specialist academics from The University of Melbourne and Monash University who lectured on current neuroscientific developments in solving the hard problem of consciousness, the problem of mind and personal identity. These topics are part of their Unit 3 studies, where they are required to examine the classical views of Descartes, Locke and Hume in comparison to contemporary philosophical positions and advancements in Science.

It was a fantastic opportunity for the students to hear from academics pitching at an undergraduate level, and to refine their understanding of the classical texts in relation to current research.
