Imagine a World Beneath the Sea…

In Term 1, a shared interest in the sea surfaced in the Waratah Room.

A ‘Seaside Collage Experience’ was initially introduced to support the children’s curiosity about nature and the environment. The children were invited to create their unique representations of the sea by exploring a variety of materials. This language-rich learning opportunity swiftly unveiled that visiting the seaside was a meaningful experience for many of the Waratah Room children.

To extend upon this area of interest, a collection of topical picture storybooks have been introduced to the program to inspire playful literacy learning and act as an invitation to consider the array of sea life that exists in our oceans.

In the final week of Term 1, the children’s collaborative learning journey was celebrated with a special ‘Rockpool Discovery’ incursion. The children were invited to explore various sea creatures as part of a ‘Wild Action’ experience. The group was afforded the opportunity to get up close and personal with a pot-bellied sea horse, cow fish, Port Jackson Shark and elephant snails to name but a few.

The immersive experience is certain to raise new questions and lines of inquiry for members of our learning community as we continue to foster meaningful connections with the natural world and the wonders within it.
