Interschool Chess Tournament

On Monday 18 March, St Catherine’s School participated in a Chess Victoria Open Secondary Interschool Chess Tournament, which was held at Scotch College in Hawthorn. St Catherine’s competed against teams from several other schools and our School’s overall performance was very pleasing with St Catherine’s finishing 4th place and achieving a higher score than teams from five competing schools.

The commendable performance of the St Catherine’s students has enabled our School to qualify to compete in both the Chess Victoria Open Secondary and Secondary Girls State Finals. Both of these events will be held later this year in October. Whilst St Catherine’s has previously competed in the Chess Victoria Secondary Girls State Finals, it is the first time that our School has qualified to play in the Open Secondary State Finals event.

St Catherine’s students participated in the Chess Victoria Open Secondary Interschool Chess Tournament.

Lillian Lu (Year 10) and Paula Chen (Year 9) are both to be congratulated for their fine individual performances as these students both won five of their seven games and were among the top performing players in the tournament.

Well done to the following 13 students who represented St Catherine’s in this event:

  • Year 11: Millicent Cottrell, Zoë Meggitt, Ruby Morton and Serena Sitch.
  • Year 10: Chloe Cooper, Claire Gray, Lillian Lu, Clementine Newton-Brown and Tiffany Pham.
