A Community of Learners

Young children develop a sense of belonging when they experience relationships and participate in communities. From birth, children experience living and learning with others in a range of communities. Experiencing respectful, responsive relationships strengthens the child’s interests and skills and enables them to become active contributors in their world. Participation in the early learning community within Campbell House provides the children with opportunities to broaden their experiences and relationships.

“When educators create environments in which children experience mutually enjoyable, caring and respectful relationships with people and the environment, children respond accordingly.” – Early Years Learning Framework, Australia 2009.

Through our Early Learning Centre (ELC) curriculum framework, the Early Years Learning Framework for Australia (EYLF), the children are provided with opportunities and experiences to develop their relationships with others and their participation within a community of learners.

During their educational journey in the St Catherine’s ELC, the children are provided with opportunities to develop a sense of community.

EYLF Outcome 2: Children are connected with and contribute to their world.

  • Children develop a sense of belonging to groups and communities and an understanding of reciprocal rights and responsibilities necessary for active community participation.
  • Children respond to diversity with respect.
  • Children become aware of fairness.
  • Children become socially responsible and show respect for the environment.

“When children participate collaboratively in everyday routines, events and experiences and have opportunities to contribute to decisions, they learn to live interdependently.” – Early Years Learning Framework, Australia 2009.

During their educational journey in Campbell House, the children are provided with opportunities to develop a sense of community, learn about diversity and respect, develop an awareness of fairness and become socially responsible. These are all attributes for successful participation in the group learning context and wonderful preparation for life.

ELC Discovery Morning

An open morning for prospective families will be held in Campbell House on Saturday 30 March between 9.00am and 11.00am. We look forward to warmly welcoming members of the broader community to the ELC for this event.

Visitors will have the opportunity to have a tour of the ELC and speak with our educators and the School Registrar about the early learning program. The Discovery Morning is designed to be an immersive experience where children can participate in some of the educational experiences that are offered through our early learning program. We encourage you to share information about this event with family and friends who may be interested in finding out more about the ELC.

Bookings can be made via the School Registrar, Mrs Jeanette Boehm. Please phone + 61 3 9828 3071.
