Encountering Structures – A Project Beginning

The Banksia Room educators have focused on building relationships with the children and their families as well as documenting the children’s interests. We have observed the children demonstrating a strong interest in structures; houses, towers, jails, zoos, towns and cities, and they have used many of the ‘100 languages’ to express their ideas and thinking. Educators will continue to observe the children and gather raw data about the function of different buildings, the different forms of buildings, exploring buildings from different perspectives, the materials they are built from and their theories of the building process. These observations, discussions and raw data will be then analysed before planning the project. Educators are excited to observe what is developing and will ponder the following questions:

  • What is happening and where do we go from here as teachers?
  • How do we challenge the children?
  • What are our goals and learning outcomes for the children?

The educators are eager to see how this project will unfold.
