Crew Presentation Night

On Sunday 10 February, parents and rowers attended the Crew Presentation Night held at Mercantile Rowing Club.

A brand new Sykes racing 4x+ was christened as the ‘Lisa Steven’ for our Junior and Intermediate Rowing Programs. The School recognised the immense contribution of Lisa Steven over a period spanning over two decades. Lisa has been a major fundraiser for the School, as well as heading various committees in her time. The Steven family have also been keen participants within the Rowing Program in this time, with Lisa’s daughter Kate completing all years of Rowing, being awarded a Morongo medal as well as coaching within the Rowing program for five years. Kate in this time was a Head of the Schoolgirl winning coach in her final season of coaching. The Rowing program are very pleased that we can assist the School in recognising Lisa and the Steven family.

The Sykes Quad was named in honour of Lisa Steven for her contribution and long time support of St Catherine’s.

Our ‘fearless’ Principal Mrs Michelle Carroll, spoke about the School’s wish for our rowers to be “the best they can be”. Our Rowing Captains, Harriette Dryden (Year 12) and Emily Sutherland (Year 12), also spoke brilliantly about learning from their racing and their desire to execute their best effort.

A great environment was developed at Mercantile by the hard and appreciated work of current Heyington Club committee members under the leadership of Lucy Fortey.

Senior Rowing News – Nagambie Regatta

Senior rowers returned to Nagambie on 9 February to race at the Nagambie Regatta. It was a solid day of learning for the students with 2000m racing. Students learnt a lot regarding their execution of racing performances, focussing on their own consistency of speed through power, rhythm and concentration. These lessons will now be addressed in training so we can continue to build towards Head of the Schoolgirls.
