Performing Arts Faculty Update

House Arts 2018 Productions

At the beginning of 2018, the Year 11 students from each of the four Houses randomly selected an envelope that contained two different stimuli: an Art movement and a well known saying. These combinations were to be the foundation of the planning, development and presentation of their House Arts productions.

Many months later, once all the scripting, rehearsing and revisions had been done, the performance night marked the culmination of not only a year’s worth of preparation for the Year 11 leaders, but a full school week of rehearsal and work by every member of each House. The packed auditorium showed immense appreciation for the effort, passion and talent on display – each aspect of the performances led and run entirely by our students.

The judges across the five areas of Dance, Drama, Media, Music and Visual Art were full of praise for the cohesiveness, camaraderie and creativity on display. After yet another close battle, Holmes Kilbride went back-to-back in receiving the Michael Bond House Arts Trophy. Holmes Kilbride co-captains Eve Rayner (Year 12) and Harriette Dryden (Year 12) were thrilled with the result and thanked all involved.

This year sees another new challenge with an exciting stimulus pack to be released to the Year 11 cohort mid-Term 1. The performance evening will take place on Thursday 5 December.

Senior School 2019 Play

The next production to hit the Dorothy Pizzey stage is the 2019 Senior School play, The Crucible. St Catherine’s School and St Kevin’s College will again join forces to bring this tragic masterpiece to life. Arthur Miller’s play is regarded as a central work in the canon of American dramatic realism. With its inclusion on the VCE English text list, this is a must see for all Senior School students (recommended for ages 15 years and over). Rehearsals are well underway and the cast are starting to find the right mix of intensity and emotion that the script demands.

The performance dates are as follows:

  • Thursday 16 May at 6.30pm
  • Friday 17 May at 6.30pm
  • Saturday 18 May at 4.00pm

Bookings will open at the end of Term 1, so watch this space!
