The Year 8 cohort have enjoyed an excellent start to the school year. The happy, positive energy generated within the Year 8 area and amongst the group is most pleasing. The Year 8 teachers have commented on the diligent start to the academic program, and the enthusiasm and motivation of getting down to work.

We welcomed two new girls to the cohort, Charlotte Rowe and Matilda Corsham. Both students are settling into the routine of the School and have quickly established a core group of friends. We also welcomed Ms Kirsten Wiley to St Catherine’s School. Ms Wiley is an experienced teacher who will be teaching Year 8 Mathematics and 8HK Form Teacher.

As a part of the Year 8 weConnect theme, this term we are focussing on the importance of ‘Connecting with kindness and showing gratitude’.

Aims:

  • Demonstrate kindness and caring towards each other.
  • Establish new friendships across the Year Level and enjoy time with different groups of girls.
  • Look after each other and support each other.
  • Be ‘friendly’ to each other – you do not have to be friends with everyone.
  • Be thoughtful and considerate of others’ feelings and beliefs.
  • Demonstrate gratitude – say ‘thank you’.
  • Understand how your actions/behaviour can define you. How do you wish to be known as a St Catherine’s Girl?

We will integrate these objectives into our Emotional Intelligence Program, which will be delivered to the students by their Form Teacher during the semester.

Term 1 is a very busy term with a full co-curricular program and an extensive lunchtime clubs program. I encourage all Year 8 students to become involved in the co-curricular offerings of the School, whether it be the sporting program, music and choir, or lunchtime and afterschool clubs.

I wish the students well for the term and I remind parents of the importance of communicating with your daughter’s Form Teacher or me. Please do not hesitate to make contact with us.

Best wishes for the term ahead.

Miss Jennifer Molloy, Head of Year 8
