Update from the Head of Performing Arts

We have had a busy start to the term in the Performing Arts. The Years 7 and 8 play Tales from the Arabian Nights played to two very enthusiastic audiences last weekend. The stage was awash with colour and energy, as the smuggles captivated both King Shahrayar and the audience with their engaging storytelling. The cast performed with gusto, and were commendably supported by students in the backstage crew, on the sound and lighting desks, as well as the Year 9 Music class who provided musical accompaniment. Congratulations to Miss Tessa Dunstan and her entire team on a wonderful production. Photos of the performance can be viewed below.

The VCE Theatre Studies class had their externally assessed Stagecraft Examination on Tuesday, which was the culmination of weeks of preparation, research, monologue analysis and rehearsal. Not an easy feat the day after Year 12 ‘Celebration Day’, but the class did themselves proud.

The Years 9 and 10 Page to Stage Drama class also held their class performances in the Ballroom on Wednesday afternoon, interpreting short pieces of script and bringing them to life.

The 2019 Senior Play was also announced last week, to much excitement. Auditions for Arthur Miller’s The Crucible will be held in Weeks 4 and 5 for senior students.

We are also looking forward to seeing the showcase of Speech and Drama students on Tuesday 13 November at 4.00pm in the Ballroom. Students from Years 5 to 9 will be presenting selections of their Trinity College London examination pieces. For students interested in taking up these lessons in 2019, more information about the course can be found here.

The final Performing Arts event for the year is the prestigious House Arts performances. These will be held in the Senior School Hall on Tuesday 11 December at 6.00pm. This is a free non-ticketed event and there is already plenty of anticipation about which House will be awarded the Michael Bond Trophy in 2018.
