St Catherine’s Choirs Receive Gold and Platinum Awards at Music Festival
St Catherine’s recently participated in the Victorian Schools Music Festival 2018 held at Deakin Edge, Federation Square. The School entered three choirs in the competition: The Sherren Singers (Years 7 and 8), Epstein Choir (Years 4 to 6) and Year 6 Choir (whole year level).
The Sherren Singers started our campaign with How Can I Keep From Singing, which had the audience tapping their toes. Their performance of Orange Tree thoroughly engaged those listening, particularly when the girls delivered flowers to audience members in the instrumental section. Not only did the girls sing with conviction and skill, but adjudicator Paul Jarman congratulated all three soloists, Olivia Fortey (Year 8), Charlotte Myer (Year 8) and Ciara Jenkins (Year 8), on their outstanding performances.
In the upper primary choral section, the Year 6 Choir performed a comical piece called The Cactus and then a two part arrangement of Hushabye Mountain.
The Epstein Choir was the final choir to perform. They sang two beautiful pieces, The Rainbow and Danza, Danza. Following each performance, students received a master class on stage by internationally renowned composer and choral director, Paul Jarman. The girls embraced Paul’s suggestions for improving their vocal technique and overall choral sound. It was a valuable and enjoyable learning experience for everyone involved. 
Both adjudicators remarked on the excellent interpretation of dynamics, beautiful tone and overall presentation of each of the choirs.
Congratulations to the Epstein Choir for receiving the Platinum Award, the highest award possible at the Festival, and the Year 6 Choir and The Sherren Singers, who each received a Gold Award.
