House Snowsports Results

Junior School Results

Congratulations to all students that ventured to Mt Buller last weekend for the House Snowsports and Training. With fresh snow on the ground, conditions were ideal for all aspects of skiing.

Final results for Barbreck were:

1st Langley Templeton – 60 points

2nd Holmes Kilbride – 34 points

3rd Beaulieu Blair – 33 points

4th Davis – 32 points

Next on the Snowsports agenda is the Interschools Cross Country on Sunday 5 August and we expect a strong showing from our cross country skiers to grab early points in our quest for the Overall Snowsports Championship.

Any students who have finished their involvement with cross country snowsports and want to return their equipment it would be most appreciated.

Senior School Results

A big congratulations and thank you to all the families and students who participated in the House Snowsports last weekend. As always, the weekend was packed full of action, with plenty of encouragement and spirit alive among the Snowsports community. The House Snowsports is a vital event within the sports calendar, not only providing our girls with the opportunity to challenge themselves in a friendly rivalry against their house peers, but also providing an opportunity to trial and learn different Snowsport events. This year St Catherine’s School, with the support of the Snowsports Auxiliary, established a snowboard development program that aims to encourage girls to diversify their skills and spark potential interest in the event. This encouragement personifies the School’s Snowsports mantra of ‘giving it a go for the team’ and we look forward to continuing to invest in snowboarding into the future.

As always, the House events provided a number of highlights. In the alpine, all four houses were represented at the top end. Matisse Stafford (Year 7) of Holmes Kilbride took the honours, winning the senior event overall. Celia Cody (Year 11) of Davis, Zara Cooper (Year 7) of Beaulieu Blair and Sienna Opray (Year 7) of Langley Templeton finished second, third and fourth respectively. In the Snowboard, it was Beaulieu Blair who showed their might. Willow Burrell (Year 12), Amelia Maisano (Year 11) and Jessica Yang (Year 9) were top three, scoring valuable points for their house. Willow Burrell (Year 12) and Ella Lansell (Year 12) demonstrated their deviser range of skills finishing top two in the moguls. In the Cross Country, Zara Bongiorno (Year 8) and Madeleine Hooker (Year 8) battled hard in both time trials, alternating top spots. Zara Bongiorno (Year 8) finished with the fastest time in the Classic event while Madeleine Hooker (Year 8) demonstrated her strong skills in the highly technical Skate event.

Overall, it was Beaulieu Blair who proved to be too strong on the day, taking out the Senior School House Snowsports Cup. Thank you to all the students and families who made the trip to Mt Buller for the event. Your support and encouragement of each other is truly special. Thank you greatly to the staff and Snowsports Auxiliary who work tirelessly behind the scene to run an amazing event. We look forward to the interschool events to follow. Go St Catherine’s!
