Focus on travel

Holidays provide many opportunities for new and exciting experiences. Over the Term 2 holiday break, the Banksia Room children were invited to collect a special postcard from their holiday or a place they had visited. Since returning this term, the children have been enjoying sharing their favourite holiday experiences during Morning Meetings.

Several postcards arrived at school by mail, including one from our staff member Ms Jill Baker, who had travelled to Europe. The children are eager to hear about everybody’s different adventures and as their interest develops, it encompasses their understanding of travel and their place in the world. The dramatic play area has been designed to represent a travel agency complete with travel brochures and travel paraphernalia. The children have begun making individual passports and exploring and identifying different destinations on the world map. They are also comparing flags and appreciating the different designs with the intention of designing and creating a flag for Banksia Room.

Through this emerging interest, the children are gaining an appreciation and respect for other places and cultures.
