Become involved in the new Creative Arts Auxiliary

Arts education aids students in skills needed in the workplace: flexibility, the ability to solve problems and communicate, the ability to learn new skills, to be creative and innovative, and to strive for excellence.

Term 3 will see a new era for our School community’s support of the performing and visual arts at St Catherine’s with the creation of a Creative Arts Auxiliary.

This Auxiliary will replace the current Art Action and the Drama and Music Auxiliaries, bringing support for all the School’s creative arts endeavours under the one banner. It is an exciting opportunity for volunteer parents from all parts of the School, Old Girls or past parents to become involved in this new group, which will provide support for the School’s creative arts program and which also encourages friendship and participation.

The Auxiliary has been created to recognise the importance of creative arts education and the benefits of sustained involvement in the arts and to advocate for the creative arts within the whole School community. The Auxiliary will also assist the students and all creative arts staff by supporting their performance and exhibition events, and by raising funds to go towards purchases or projects identified by the Heads of Departments.

Current President of the Drama Auxiliary, Alison Dennison says, “Members of all three existing auxiliaries are excited about the merger, as it provides the opportunity to join forces to strengthen our support of the creative arts from our youngest students right through to VCE. We all believe strongly in the role and value of the creative arts in our girls’ education. In the four years I have been involved with the Drama Auxiliary, I’ve made many friends across the school. It’s a great way to demonstrate your support for arts education while also having a lot of fun.”

Alison would love to hear from any parents, Old Girls or past parents who are keen to be involved, or who would like more information. Please email her at dennisons@iinet.net.au.
