Special Request for Dog Owners

Parents are respectfully advised that dogs should not be brought into the school grounds at any time.

The request is an important one as we have students who suffer severe allergies and reactions to dogs (fur/saliva).

Whilst we understand that walking the family dog to school is an ideal activity, please ensure that they are not brought anywhere into the school grounds.

First Day of Term 3 2018 – Wednesday 18 July (Junior School students only)

As per the 2018 School calendar, the first day of  Term 3 for all Barbreck students is Wednesday 18 July at 8.30am.

Junior School students will commence with much enthusiasm, as we will be commencing classes in the new building!

The one day late start for Junior School students is only for the commencement of Term 3, 2018.

Mother’s Day Stall

The much anticipated Annual Mother’s Day Stall held in Barbreck was met with many smiles and expressions of delight once again, when classes had their opportunity to “go shopping” at School.

Staff reported with pleasure, the level of excitement and the air of anticipation about keeping the gifts “secret”, which would be kept until Mother’s Day for special women in their lives. We are not certain that secrets were all able to be held however until the actual day!

PFA Members involved in the Stall, and others who assisted on the day, worked so hard to ensure yet another wonderful assortment of gifts were available to be selected and purchased.

Thank you to all the PFA and community members who provided the shopping opportunity for students. It was indeed well appreciated!

The session last week involved the topic of “Sense of Smell” in line with a theme about “The Sense”.

In Write on Wednesday, many forms of stimulus are used to help the students to develop their writing skills. The girls are encouraged to include detail in their descriptive pieces and poems, to use the stimulus to take them to a different place and to paint pictures with their words.

This Term we have been using the five senses as stimuli. It is exciting to witness the focus of the students as they put their ideas and thoughts onto paper.

For reader enjoyment, we have included below just a few samples of student writing reflecting the topic of “The Senses”:

Orange Soda by Xi (Selina) Yao, Year 5

Drinking orange soda,

I am an orphan.

Looking at the sky,

Crying in the garden,

The people saw me

Running away.

Now I’m all alone.

Popcorn by Chelsea Harris, Year 6

It’s buttery scent was what pierced my nostrils first. Next came the salty touch that battled with the smell of butter. Somewhere underneath, I could sense some sweetness and immediately … I could smell the popcorn.

The Hurricane by Katharine Soutter, Year 6

The wind blew outside. I could hear the pouring rain splatter against the tin roof. The water was flooding the base of the shed. My mum wasn’t home for another hour and I had forgotten my keys. I could see the black clouds speeding towards me. It looked like a hurricane. I shut my eyes tightly and squeezed my school bag for comfort. My inside felt cold and stiff with fear. This was not the first hurricane I had lived through and I hoped it would not be my last.
