GSV Triathlon

Congratulations to all the students who participated in the All Schools Triathlon on Sunday 4 March. Triathlon is not a sport for the faint hearted. Despite the early race start, choppy water conditions and a grueling course our tough St Catherine’s students were not fazed by the challenge and took it head on, enjoying the chance to sample a triathlon.

This year we had seven students tackle the individual triathlon. Brydie Read (Year 7), Elosie Burdett-Moore (Year 7), Madeleine Hooker (Year 8), Lilli Holmes (Year 8), Sienna Darcy (Year 7) and Ava Colosimo (Year 7) all took on the short distance triathlon, which included a 200m swim, 10km bike and 2km run. Madeleine Hooker was our fastest finisher, finishing sixth overall in the Junior Category. Isabelle Dann (Year 12) took on the long distance triathlon, which included a 400m swim, 10km bike and 4km run. Isabelle finished fifth overall despite overcoming a flat tyre mid race. All seven girls should be extremely proud of their efforts in taking on the full, individual triathlon. Despite a few pre-race nerves, the girls showed a great deal of determination to push beyond their personal limits.

St Catherine’s also had 12 teams take on the teams relay triathlon. Here girls competed in teams of two or three, completing specific disciplines within the triathlon. All teams did extremely well, with our intermediate team of, Elodie Ferrali, Isabella Bufé and Chloe Joubert finishing third overall. A special congratulations must be given to Claudia Coombe-Tennant, Georgia Stoupas and Bronte Cullen (Year 8) who completed duathlons, two of the three specific disciplines within their team. Looking forward to seeing them tackle the complete triathlon next year.

Thank you to all the parents who supported their daughters and the St Catherine’s team on the day. Overall it was a fantastic morning at Elwood beach, with many smiling, happy faces post event.

Well done triathletes!

GSV Swimming

Hot off the press… St Catherine’s Swim Team has qualified through to 2018 GSV Division 1 Swimming Championships!

In 2017 St Catherine’s narrowly missed out on qualifying for the Division 1. With this results used as added motivation to improve, the team put themselves to work, training hard in the pool and encouraging their team members to stay the course of the season. Well done to the St Catherine’s Swim Team and their captains Charlotte Sinclair and Isabelle Gough for their efforts in returning St Catherine’s to the top tier of Swimming. We look forward to seeing what this team can achieve at Championships. The GSV Div 1 Swimming Championships shall take place Wednesday 21 March.

GSV Diving

Congratulations to Laetitia Donato (Year 12 – Dive Captain), Lily Trosdal Ryan (Year 11) and Annelise Cody (Year 11) who won the Senior category of the GSV Diving Preliminary Carnival. All three girls dived extremely well, finishing second, second and first in their respective events.

In strong signs for the future, our Junior divers also competed extremely well with five girls finishing within the top two of their respective events. Coco Marshall (Year 7) scored the most points, with her Forward 1½ Somersaults scoring 21.5 points, the highest individual point score in the Junior Division.

Our Diving team will take on the GSV Division 2 Championships on Tuesday 20 March.

Good luck team!

Girlsail

Well done to Clarence Houle-O’Connor and Grace Hayne (Year 8) who competed in the Girlsail event at Davey’s Bay Yacht Club. The girls placed fifth and ninth in their Division.

GSV Golf

On February 27, five St Catherine’s students participated in the GSV Golf Competition at the Metropolitan Golf Club.

Blue skies and warm weather ensured the girls had a great day on the course. Year 12 students Elizabeth Gorton and Jessica Caine displayed their talents, shooting 54 and 46 respectively (fourth and sixth overall).

It was also great to see some of our Year 7 students involved, with Olivia Howitt and Sienna Rosham enjoying their time on the course. Olivia’s 41 and Sienna’s 44 saw them join the Year 12s to finish within the top ten of the competition for students without a handicap.

Year 8 student and golfing wonder Jeneath Wong participated in the advanced competition and played off her amazing handicap of 0.3! She shot the best score of the day, with a three over par 41.

Well done to all students who participated and we wish Jeneath the best for her upcoming trials for Golf Victoria’s State Team.
